| Since the beginning of April, the city of Manaus - a city of 1,5 Million people deep in the Amazon rainforest - is hosting the 6th Festival de Opera. Sponsored by the Tourism minister of the Brazil Amazon province, the sixth edition of the only event of its kind in Latin America, is featuring four operas, two of them on their debut performance, and three concerts. The city is an island in the jungle, 6 hours by boat to the next city - otherwise only reachable by plane. (For an interesting description of the "other" Manaus read here!). The festival continues until the end of May. Is part of the receipts going to rainforest preservation?
