| How much can be achieved with local initiatives! The first Equator Initiative Awards will be awarded to 5 initiatives, focusing on sustainable development, including biodiversity and working against the odds of poverty. Inivited were 27 different groups and campaigns - from different parts of the globe, proving the importance of local persistence for the rescue of our planet. The UNDP supported Awards will be presented at the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg, South Africa from 26 August to 4 September, 2002.
