For 30,000 years, bushmen lived in the Kalahari desert in today's Botswana - but now, after a 17-year struggle, the last of them will be forced out of their ancestral land by their own government. We all witness the death of another traditional culture - unneccessary as many others, but even more tragical, because the "San people"'s culture survived longer than any other on earth. They are forced out of their ancestral land, because of the greed for diamonds - a reason for Botswana's relative wealth.

Since the beginning of April, the city of Manaus - a city of 1,5 Million people deep in the Amazon rainforest - is hosting the 6th Festival de Opera.
Sponsored by the Tourism minister of the Brazil Amazon province, the sixth edition of the only event of its kind in Latin America, is featuring four operas, two of them on their debut performance, and three concerts. The city is an island in the jungle, 6 hours by boat to the next city - otherwise only reachable by plane. (For an interesting description of the "other" Manaus read here!). The festival continues until the end of May. Is part of the receipts going to rainforest preservation?

Between May 30th and June 2nd, the city of Wuerzburg in Germany will play host to a variety of artists and visitors from the African continent. The original Africa Festival Würzburg is in its 14th year and is still growing. It is an early highlight of the European Summer Festival Season. More than 100 000 visitors have come to Würzburgs Mainwiesen in 2001 to witness the black continents cultural wealth.
